Mechanical Technician
Are you a mechanically skilled technician who enjoys working on large industrial machinery? Do you like troubleshooting, preventive maintenance and actually understanding why a machine fails instead of simply replacing a part?
We are looking for a Mechanical Maintenance Technician to strengthen the maintenance team within a large industrial production environment.
Whether you already have several years of maintenance experience or have recently completed your technical training and are ready to develop yourself further in industrial maintenance, this could be an excellent next step.

About the role
As a Mechanical Maintenance Technician, your main responsibility is to keep the mechanical installations and production equipment in excellent technical condition. Together with your colleagues, you make sure that production can continue safely and reliably by performing preventive, corrective and predictive maintenance.
A large part of your job consists of troubleshooting mechanical failures. You analyse the problem on site, use technical drawings, maintenance reports and other documentation to determine the cause and decide on the appropriate solution. Depending on your experience, you will either perform these activities independently or together with a more experienced technician.
You prepare maintenance activities by determining the correct approach and making sure the necessary tools, materials and spare parts are available. You perform repairs, overhauls and modifications on machinery and installations and work on mechanical components such as bearings, gearboxes, shafts, couplings, hydraulic and pneumatic systems and lifting equipment.
The role goes beyond repairing equipment when something breaks down. You inspect installations, identify wear and potential failures and contribute ideas for improving machine availability, reliability and maintenance methods. When you notice recurring problems, you are encouraged to investigate the cause and discuss possible technical improvements with the maintenance team.
After completing maintenance or repair work, you check that the installation is operating correctly before it is returned to production. All relevant information about your work, measurements and repairs is registered in the maintenance system.
What you bring
You have a technical background in mechanical engineering, mechanical fitting, millwrighting, mechatronics or a comparable field. More important than your exact qualification is that you understand mechanical systems and enjoy working hands-on with industrial machinery.
For a more junior candidate, we are looking for a strong technical foundation combined with the motivation to learn from experienced technicians. If you already have experience within industrial maintenance, we expect you to be able to independently analyse mechanical failures, perform maintenance and repairs and use technical drawings and documentation.
You are comfortable using hand and power tools, understand how mechanical installations work and have a practical approach to troubleshooting. Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, bearings, gearboxes, pumps, conveyors or other rotating equipment would fit the position well.
You work accurately, take safety seriously and understand that good maintenance is about more than repairing today's problem: the goal is to keep the installation reliable in the long term.

About FN Steel
FN Steel is a leading European manufacturer of high-quality steel wire products, located in Alblasserdam, the Netherlands. The company operates in a heavy industrial production environment where steel wire rod is processed into specialised wire products for customers across a wide range of industries.
The production process involves large-scale and technically complex machinery, making maintenance an essential part of the operation. Mechanical and electrical technicians work closely together to keep the installations safe, reliable and available for production. Preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and continuous technical improvement therefore play an important role within the organisation.
For technicians, FN Steel offers an environment where you can work on substantial industrial equipment and develop broad technical knowledge. Rather than working on one type of machine, you will encounter a variety of mechanical, electrical and control systems throughout the production process.
Safety, reliability and continuous improvement are central to the way the technical department operates. This makes FN Steel particularly interesting for technicians who enjoy hands-on industrial maintenance, solving technical problems and continuously improving machinery and installations.
